Overview and my first impressions of the Green Mountain Davy Crockett
The Davy Crockett has a 120v power supply, 12v socket, and battery terminal cables of 12v.
According to their website, this portable grill is suitable for small groups and families as well as individuals that are looking to prepare 4 to 6 steaks or large amount of burgers.
This grill is a stainless grill that has an inbuilt Wi-Fi which allows it to connect freely with the GMG app.
This version of grill has been available in the market for a long time until recently when it was upgraded to GMG prime. The new version also has inbuilt Wi-Fi that connects it to the app.
Design and build quality
Despite the fact that the Davy Crockett grill is a strong and portable grill, there were some certain things I didn’t find appealing to me.
One of them is that the hood hinge has the habit of moving apart while using the grill, even though this issue could be fixed in a minute, It was very annoying for me.
Another thing that I found to be quite annoying is that there are visible grind marks on the hood hinges.
The grill is strong and portable with good pellet feed system. It has racks on both sides which are stainless and the grates are stainless steel too.
Another part that functions excellently is the grease tray and heat shield. These two are sturdy and well built unlike other inexpensive grills within the same price. The attached meat probe functions effectively and performs accurately.
The drip pan which is located beside the temperature sensor serves as a means by which grease and other debris can be removed or washed. This is important especially if you are planning to cook grease with the grill. The drip pan needs to be cleaned more frequently since it harbors debris and grease.
The Davy Crockett pellet grill has a fourteen gauge body and thirteen gauge lid. It is a grill made of steel which is more sturdy and heavier than most of its competitors while retaining its portability.
The grill comes with a 2 years warranty that covers any error made during the production of the grill. So, you can return your grill if eventually you find out that it has an issue after purchase. The company responds very fast and they are ready to keep going until you are satisfied.
Some of the issues I had with the Davy Crockett pellet grill
My grill had some parts that were faulty due to some reasons and it resulted to lots of problem while I was using the grill.
This part of the article is aimed at giving you all the detailed information about my experience with the grill just in case someone has the same issue like mine.
After I got the grill, I carefully read the user manual and guide. I installed the GMG application on my mobile phone and connected the app using the inbuilt Wi-Fi feature.
My first meal was some chicken wings since I wanted to test the grill first before using it to cook other meals. I used the cooking method in the manual for drumsticks.
Should you invest in the Davy Crockett pellet grill?
This grill is a well designed unit that is very easy to operate and I fell in love with the grill at first sight.
Even though I had some issues with the grill which made me lose a bit interest in the grill, it was mainly as a result of the faulty circuit and temperature sensor. Most people won’t have this same problem with their own grill.
Since I had issues with my grill temperature sensor, I started using other temperature monitoring equipment to monitor my cooking.
